Evil Intent improves to 2-0
Submitted by: David Morse
Evil Intent and the Evil Intent Kids teams squared off September 30th to see how they measured up against
one another. Team Evil Intent wanted to prove they were the right choice for
the main squad and that they were the team to beat in the league.
EI kids wanted to show EI they should not take them for granted and that if they played together they could play much
better than they had in the game versus the Harrisburg Hitmen.
For the most part both teams did exactly that. Except for a couple of
quicker rollover games that come from simple lucky shot, or just looking out at the wrong time, the games for this match were
played pretty tight. Both teams had eliminations take out some of their players
but capitalizing on that proved to be more difficult than either expected. For
the most part EI did the better job of doing that and the score proved that to be true with the match intending Evil Intent
- 4 to Evil intent Kids - 1.
The kids’ team did successfully stop team EI from scoring twice while on defense, which is an improvement over
their last performance when they just could not stop the Hitmen from scoring. They
also did score once which matched their previous result. These guys are hungry
to improve their game and so far it is showing.
Evil Intent played a more consistent game than they did against Bad Medicine.
Josh “Cowboy” Brandon continues to be the
ignition for their offense as he plays aggressively and is not afraid to take on defenders head to head on the defenders side
of the field.
Evil Intent Kids play at the next SIPA events against Bad Medicine on October 14th. Both teams are eager for their first win, one thing is for sure somebody will accomplish that while the
other drops to 0 - 3.

Onslaught also took on Bad Medicine on September 30th for the 3:00pm match.
Depending on whom you asked Onslaught was probably considered to be the team to beat in order to make the championship
run during the preseason discussions. Now it was time to see if their game would
live up to the hype.
One unknown factor for them would have been the fact that it appears Don Norman will not be playing for Onslaught this
year. So, Captain Wade Moore scrambled
around preseason and found Aaron Moore a local guy from Carbondale with several years experience to fill in the position.
Although Aaron had experience it sometimes is hard to bring in a new player in the mix on short notice. This was critical as Aaron was replacing Don Norman who had been Onslaught’s “stay in the game
and take it to them” player in other leagues around the area.
Bad Medicine on the other hand were just trying to see if they could overcome their tough start, and get their offense
going.
Early games in the match involved a lot of long balling until someone on the opposing team was shot out then moves
would be made to adjust to the new situation. Bad Medicine on several occasions
actually got the first elimination several times taking out CJ Martin who plays left tape for Onslaught. Unfortunately for Bad Medicine they never really took advantage of the situation and Onslaught was the
team to make adjustments and often made moves to improve their position to turn the game around and eventually win the point
or successfully defend their goal line.
After halftime, both teams made a few offensive adjustments and did not send the lower left tape man to the far left
bunker anymore. This improved both teams not getting players eliminated early
in the game. However, this changed the game to one of more strategy than raw
long ball gun fighting, so movement was much more important.
Onslaught proved to have the better formula for this method and with Bad Medicine continuing to have communication
breakdowns, Onslaught was able to send players frequently to Bad Medicine’s side of the field and press them for eliminations.
One game in which CJ Martin was once again eliminated early had Wade Moore
make the “play of the day” by completely moving to the other side of the field after his team shot out Jason Morse,
then Wade moved up to the house bunker on BM’s side of the field, he bunkered Jeff French
and then “flank shotted” Loren Zerkel to win that game.
The game ended with Onslaught winning 6 – 0. There offense was only
stopped once by Bad Medicine who was unable to get their offense together to score.
To Bad Medicines’ credit, two of their games they only had two guns functioning, which does happen, however,
this is the second outing in which they have had equipment problems. They need
to get these issues settled now so they can focus on the task ahead. Although,
not expected to win this match, a couple of games they played today could be described as “opportunity lost”. Bad Medicine takes on Evil Intent Kids Sept 30th at 3:00 PM.
Onslaught will also take on the Hitmen on the 30th at 1:30 PM. Wade Moore, Carl Brasher, and David
Morse are more familiar with one another than anyone else in the league on opposing teams. That’s because these guys have a long history of playing both with and against each other primarily
in the 1990’s. This new format will change a lot of things than in their
previous meetings. Which team will be able to take it to the next level or come
up with some new strategies to win? Onslaught’s team has the edge
in late tourney experience. But the Hitmen have had solid play from both Carl Brasher and David Morse, we’ll see if they
have prepared their
“greenie” players to handle this new challenge. Better tighten
your seatbelts folks this match could be one wild ride.
