Hitmen edge out Onslaught in OT

Submitted by:  Wade Moore

Clash of the Titans was the name given to the match up between the Harrisburg Hitmen and Marion Onslaught. Both teams come into the match at 1-0.  They also share a lot of history between the players on their rosters.  Most of them have played against or along side of each other for several years.

On paper this looked to be a great match up and it sure did not disappoint.  The Hitmen started with the flag and had little trouble scoring the first point of the match.  Onslaught was not only battling the Hitmen but also their equipment.  The Hitmen stopped Onslaught then scored pretty easy again for a quick 2-0 lead.  It looked like it was going to be a blowout and then the Onslaught guns came alive and made a game out of it.  By the time the 2nd quarter came to an end the match was tied at 2-2.

The 3rd quarter started with the Hitmen stopping the Onslaught scoring streak and the defenses on both teams locked down.  Just before the end of the 3rd quarter Onslaught pushed across the goaline for their first lead of the match at 3-2.

The 4th quarter was back and forth with the defenses winning the battles.  All Onslaught had to do is hold one more time for the win as the Hitmen had one more chance to score and take the game to overtime.  Onslaught made mental mistakes and it looked easy for the Hitmen as they scored to force overtime.

Overtime rules for the league are a series of one on one games with players on offense and defense.  The first one to score wins the match.  The overtime took 4 one on one matches to determine the winner and it was ended by the Hitmen’s Carl Brasher taking out Onslaught’s Wade Moore to take the win for the Hitmen 4-3.

Bad Medicine finds the “cure” against EI Kids

Submitted by:  Wade Moore

In a battle of teams looking for their first win of the season the Carterville Evil Intent Kids team took on Southern Illinois Bad Medicine.

The Kids team had only scored single points in their first two matches to fall to 0-2 while Bad Medicine had yet to cross the goal this season and also fell to 0-2.  But this all changed on this day.

The Kids team came out strong and before the dust settled they had a 2-0 advantage on Bad Medicine.  It was looking like Bad Medicine was going to find scoring difficult for the third straight match.  But when the second quarter started so did Bad Medicines offense.

Jason Morse, who had not been much of a factor in their first two matches, turned it on and took out two of the Kids and scored the first point of Bad Medicines season to make it 2-1.  Then Bad Medicines defense did its job to hold the Kids scoreless through the second quarter.  Just before halftime Jason of Bad Medicine pushed across their second point of the day and at halftime the teams were deadlocked at 2-2.

The third quarter started out with Bad Medicine continuing their offensive barrage and they pushed two more points across to lead 4-2 heading into the 4th quarter.  Then the kids defense stepped up and shutout S.I. Bad Medicine in the 4th quarter and made it interesting with a late score.  Time was running out for the Evil Kids as they tried to score to take it to overtime. They came out strong and aggressive but the Bad Medicine’s defense stood tall and made the Evil Kids pay for their early aggressiveness and held on for a 4-3 win.  Both teams showed vast improvement from their prior matches.  Even though they are out of title contention for 2007, look out for these teams in 2008!
