Cat_Mailbox2.jpg

Sister saw photos of mail boxes, "Where's mine?" She is "staff" for six cats.

Mailboxes are of red oak with cherry panels. The cherry was much better for carving. Themes reflect my neighbors interests.

Having achieved a modicum of skill with bas relief carving, I thought I would try my hand at carving in the round.
A friend liked to hand paint Santa statuettes. The Hermit and Santa are from plans by a noted wood carver, Richard Bütz.

Perpetual calendars with clocks were themed for my three neighbors.

Kitten nightlights are scroll sawn with baking paper as a diffuser. They are finished with black flocking powder. The original shades of the lights were cut so I could epoxy (for heat resistance) the figures. Only three shown here but I have made about a dozen for friends.

LampsDAYLGT2.jpg

Holiday Season Lamps - each one has all four scenes - candle, ornaments, house and lane, stocking on fireplace. Tried scroll sawing four at once in 1/8 plywood; too much splintering, settled for doing two at a time. Took much longer than I had anticipated. Doesn't it always? Burned the midnight oil to get them ready as Xmas gifts.
