How I finished and upgraded the Pro Boat Impulse 32

"Don't Panic."

Quote from Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I purchased the Impulse 32 as a "hull-plus-hardware" kit so there was no motor, ESC, servo or Tx/Rx

You will find videos and information on the upgrades here.

Below are videos and pictures of the upgrades

At the end/bottom is the list of components and upgrades purchased to complete and upgrade the 32-inch Impulse

This first list of videos are specifically related to the upgrades. They are posted in chronological order with the newest upgrades at the top of the list.

Detailed Strut, Trim Tabs and Turn Fins Configuration

Using an upgraded Motor (Leopard X2 4082 1600KV) and upgraded ESC (OSE Raider 150A)

Prop and speed testing for the Impulse 32

Results below are using the detailed configuration above

Motor and ESC specs.:
Knowing these specs is important for getting a reliable setup with a good prop along with knowing the temperature of all of the electronics during and after each run when testing as seen in the table of results below. The chart below is sorted by Prop diameter (5th column). In some of the same diameter, there are different pitch ratios resulting in different total pitch size.
When selecting a prop for my Impulse 32, I am looking at the maximum AMP draw first, temperature of the electronics and then the speed.
Most props stayed under the 150 amps of the ESC, but several were over the 120 amps of the motor. In the detailed test results, some that hit max amps was only a few times during the run. Others, the amp draw stayed close to that max for several points in the run meaning it was over-stressing the motor and making everything warmer. It's not obvious from this table.
There are a few good options for prop sizes that put the boat at 50mph without putting much stress on the components. And just as important, the handling was great with the setup and many of the props. The 44mm dia. x 1.6 pitch ratio or the 43mm dia. x 1.4 pitch ratio prop seems to be the best choice. Now to get a high quality prop of that size!

Items purchased to complete and upgrade the Impulse 32:

Most items below are from Offshore Electrics
And no, we do not get anything for promoting Offshore Electrics (OSE), or anyone else; no free product, no kick-backs, etc.
OSE is a trusted seller who has pretty much everything you need for your R/C boat, primarily fast electrics (FE). And Steven is great at helping set up your boat. He helped me with my Invincible Razor build and with selecting a motor for the Impulse.
And the OSE forum is an outstanding source of information from other FE R/C boaters.
