When Mr. McWilliams retired,
Egbert Doane purchased his barber shop. He operated the shop for nearly 50 years,
until he retired in 1962. In the early years, every regular customer had his
own shaving mug with his name on it. The mugs were kept on shelves on either
side of the mirror behind the barber chair. The small size of the
shop made it seem dwarfed by the larger elevator and feed mill next to it.
Dykstra’s Elevator
purchased the barber shop property and demolished the building to add on to its own business.
