Conklin, Lisbon, and Six Corners each contained a saw mill. The saw
mill in Six Corners was located on the east side of Squires and was owned by John Gillhespy.
The saw mill in Conklin was located on Daggett Street just north of the village. It was owned and operated
by Amos Stockhill. The timber for these mills came from the surrounding areas
as farmers cleared more land for tillage.
Valentine J. Schaefer and
Barnard D. Wiltenburg also operated a saw mill for a number of years. Their saw
mill was located on the south side of Miller Street, east of the railroad tracks, in Conklin.
