Questions & Comments

Frederick Jacob Ade and his wife, Frederica Miller, and oldest son, Frederick, immigrated to Chester Township for Germany in 1875.  Frederick and Frederica had six more children after moving to Chester Township.  Their grandson, Otto Ade, was a contractor who did plumbing and electrical work.  The story is told that Otto never used testing equipment to see if an electrical wire was hot.  He would lick his fingers and grab the exposed end of the wire.  If he got a shock, he would say, “Yep, this one’s hot.”

Otto’s wife, Caroline H. Young, was a schoolteacher.  One of her students was Chuck Westover, better known as Del Shannon.  He would come to Conklin to visit her whenever he came home to Michigan.
