Conklin Post Office, circa 1901. Route Carriers are Donal Bean and Bert Barbara.

The fourth and only existing post office in the township opened in the village of West Chester on June 2, 1887.  The post office acquired its name from the railroad station that had opened the preceding year.  Shortly after the post office opened, O. F. Conklin traveled to Washington, D.C. to request that the name be changed to Conklin.  The government granted Mr. Conklin’s request and the name was changed before then end of the year.

Rural Free Delivery began on September 2, 1901.  The Conklin Post Office had two routes:  one south of Harding Street and one north of Harding Street.  As the area grew, a third route was added.  The routes were reduced from three to two when the automobile replaced the horse and buggy as the mode of transportation.  The routes served much of Chester Township and portions of Polkton, Ravenna, and Wright Townships.
