Tips for Character History

If you have chosen a race other than Human, this page lists the various other races of the Realms.

By far, it is not all inclusive. A very brief description is given for each race or subrace. If you wish to know more about ability modifiers and special racial features, please ask me. In addition, contact me if you want to find out about bonus languages, bonus equipment and/or regional feats.

As with human ethnic groups, certain sub-races will be more common (their rarity is indicated in their description). Again, it is important to come up with a good character history to support your choice.

Finally, it is important to remember that some sub-races and races have Effective Character Levels (ECLs) and/or Racial Hit Dice. ECLs help balance out a character who might have supernatural abilites or special features due to their race. Depending on where the party's level is at, some races (particularily those with high ECLs and/or Racial Hit Dice) might not be appropriate.

[The following Orc sub-races are those most likely to be the parent of an orc/human offspring. Keep in mind that Orcs can also be characters.]

1. Gray - These Orcs occupy the Moonsea lands and Endless Wastes areas of Faerun. Gray Orcs tend to be mean and savage, but they lack the desire to conquer. Less bestial looking, they are somewhat hairy, have gray skin (& hair), and yellow to red eyes.

[Any of the sub-races of elves can be the parent of an elf/human offspring. However, two sub-races are particular to Faerun - as they have created their own culture].
