This was my first trip to Sunriver, and we were flying Yankee, the manual flap Cessna with BIG tires (keep the nose up)
and a new 180 hp engine.

This is Mt Jefferson from the south and the smoke is from a large fire on the Warm Springs reservation. I
was on flight following, however, had not had a weather briefing as I could not get through to the new Lockeed run flight
service. The controller moved me to 10,500 or greater to clear the TFR over the fire (that I did not know about
because no briefing). It was a busy friday and lots of other folks were flying to the Bend Sunriver area and I heard
them all be told to climb to clear the TFR by Seattle center. I assume that none of these folks could get through either.
