The Joyful Mysteries

of the Most Holy Rosary

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

O God, come to my aid; O Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was  in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.  Amen.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful.

Enkindle in them the Fire of Your love.

Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created,

and You shall renew the face of the earth.

Mother of Jesus Christ, form us as you formed your son.  Help us to be quick to follow God’s will.  May we present Jesus in the temple of our bodies and take him with us into the homes of others.  Teach us always to look for Jesus in the Church when we have lost him in our lives.  Make us mindful of our guardian angels.  We ask these things through your intercession, through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Apostle’s Creed:  I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.  He descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.  Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.  As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.

The First Joyful Mystery— The Annunciation

Reflection from the Catechism of the Catholic Church

(430)  Jesus means in Hebrew:  “God saves.”  At the annunciation, the angel Gabriel gave him the name Jesus as his proper name, which expresses both his identity and his mission.  Since God alone can forgive sins, it is God who, in Jesus his eternal Son made man, “will save his people from their sins,” in Jesus, God recapitulates all of his history of salvation on behalf of men.

Amen.

1.  The angel Gabriel was sent by God... to a virgin;...and the virgin's name was Mary.  (Lk 1:26-27)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

2.  "Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.  (Luke 1:28)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

3.  She was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.  (Lk 1:29)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

 4.  Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.   (Lk 1:30) Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

 5.  ‘Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus.'   (Lk :31)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

 6.  ‘He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High; and of his kingdom there will be no end."  (Lk 1:32-33)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

 7.  But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?"   (Lk 1:34)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

 8.  ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.’  (Lk 1: 35)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

9.  Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.’  (Lk 1:35)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

 10.  ‘Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.’  (Lk1:38) Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.  As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.

Oh, my Jesus, forgive us our sins; save us from the fires of Hell; lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy.  Amen

Pray for us, Mary, Cause of our joy, that we will be quick to follow God’s will.

The Second Joyful Mystery— The Visitation

Reflection from the Catechism of the Catholic Church

(717)  “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.”  John was “filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother’s womb” by Christ himself, whom the Virgin Mary had just conceived by the Holy Spirit.  Mary’s visitation to Elizabeth thus became a visit from God to his people.

Amen.

1.  During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country...where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.  (Lk 1:39-40)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

 2.  When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit...  (Lk 1:41)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

 3.  [Elizabeth] cried out in a loud voice and said, "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb."  (Lk1:42)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

4.  ‘Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled."  (Lk 1:45)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

5.  And Mary said:  ‘My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my savior; For he has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness’  (Lk 1:46-48)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

6.  ‘Behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.  The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.

(Lk 1:48-49)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

7.  His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him.  (Lk 1:50)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

8.  'He has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.'  (Lk 1:51)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

9.  ‘He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly.’  (Lk 1:52)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

10.  ‘The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty.’  (Lk 1:53)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Amen

Pray for us, Mary, Cause of our joy, that we will bring Christ into the homes of others.

The Third Joyful Mystery—The Nativity

Reflection from the Catechism of the Catholic Church

(563)  No one, whether shepherd or wise man, can approach God here below except by kneeling before the manger at Bethlehem and adoring him hidden in the weakness of a new-born child.

Amen.

3.  And she laid him in a manger because there was no room for them at the inn.  (Lk 2:7)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

5.  ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.'  (Lk 2:10) Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

6.  ‘For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.’  (Lk 2:11) Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

7.  ‘Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.’  (Lk 2:14)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

Pray for us, Mary, Cause of our joy, that we, too, will make Christ the center of our family.

The Fourth Joyful Mystery—The Presentation

Reflections from the Catechism of the Catholic Church

(529)           With Simeon and Anna, all Israel awaits its encounter with the Savior – the name given to this event in the Byzantine tradition.  Jesus is recognized as the long-expected Messiah, the “light to the nations” and the “glory of Israel,” but also “a sign that is spoken against.”  The sword of sorrow predicted for Mary announces Christ’s perfect and unique oblation on the cross that will impart the salvation God had “prepared in the presence of all peoples.”

Amen.

1.  When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, (Lk 2:22)    Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

2.  Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.  (Lk 2:25) Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

3.  It had been revealed to [Simeon] by the holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord.  (Lk 2:26)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

4.  And when the parents brought in the child Jesus, [Simeon] took him into his arms and blessed God.  (Lk 2:27-28)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

5.  ‘Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word,  (Lk 2:29) Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

6.  ‘for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples,’  (Lk 2:30-31)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

7.  ‘a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.'  (Lk 2:32) Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

8.  and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted.’  (Lk 2:34)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

9.  ‘and you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.'   (Lk 2:35)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

 10.  They returned to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.  The child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.  (Lk 2:39-40) Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Amen

Pray for us, Mary, Cause of our joy, that we will always be ready to encounter Christ.

The Fifth Joyful Mystery—The Finding of Jesus in the

Temple

Reflections from the Catechism of the Catholic Church

(534)  The finding of Jesus in the Temple is the only event that breaks the silence of the Gospels about the hidden years of Jesus.  Here Jesus lets us catch a glimpse of the mystery of his total consecration to a mission that flows from  his divine sonship:  “Did you not know that I must be about my Father’s work?”  Mary and Joseph did not understand these words, but they accepted them in faith.  Mary “kept all these things in her heart” during the years Jesus remained hidden in the silence of an ordinary life.

Amen.

1.   Each year his parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, and when he was twelve years old, they went up according to festival custom  (Lk 2:41-42)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

2.  As they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it.   (Lk 2:43)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

3.  They returned to Jerusalem to look for him.  After three days they found him in the temple.  (Lk 2:45-46)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

4.  Sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, (Lk 2:46)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

5.  And all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers.  (Lk 2:47)   Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

6.  When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, "Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety."   (Lk 2:48)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

7.  And he said to them, "Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father's house?"  (Lk 2:49)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

 8.  But they did not understand what he said to them.  (Lk 2:50)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

9.  He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart.  ( Lk 2:51)    Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

10.  And Jesus increased in wisdom and age and favor before God and man.  (Lk 2:52)  Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Amen

Pray for us, Mary, Cause of our joy, that we will always look for Jesus in the Church when we have lost him in our lives.

“Grace of the Joyful Mysteries, come down into our souls and make them truly holy.  Amen”

Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope!  To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning, and weeping in this valley of tears.  Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us; and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.  O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary:

Pray for us, O holy  Mother of God

That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray, O God, Whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant we beseech thee, that meditating on these mysteries of the most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise.  Through the same Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.  May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast  into Hell, Satan and all the other evils spirits, who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, (R) Have mercy on us.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, (R) Have mercy on us.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, (R) Have mercy on us.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, (R) Pray for us.

Consecration Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus:

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, filled with infinite love, broken by my ingratitude, pierced by my sins, yet loving me still—accept the consecration that I make to you of all that I am and all that I have.  Take every faculty of my soul and body, draw me, day by day, nearer and nearer to Your Sacred Heart, and there, as I can bear the lesson, teach me Your Blessed ways.  Amen.

Consecration Prayer to the Immaculate Heart of Mary:

Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, and tender Mother of all people, I consecrate myself to you and to your Immaculate Heart, and recommend to you my family, my country, and the whole human race.  Please accept my consecration, dearest Mother, and use me as you wish, to accomplish you designs upon the world.  O Immaculate Heart of Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, rule over me, and teach me how to allow the Heart of Jesus to rule and triumph in me and around me, as it has ruled and triumphed in you.  Amen.

Memorare:

Remember, O Most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided.  Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee O Virgin of virgins my mother, to thee I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.  O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petition, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.  Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the most precious blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home, and within my family. Amen."

With this Rosary, we bind all of our children, grandchildren, and loved ones to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
