Gaming Linkgo:

PS3 – Play Station 3

PS2 – Play Station 2

DS – Dual Screen

GC – Game Cube

GBASP – Game Boy Advance SP

NES GBA SP - Special Classic Limited Edition.

RPG – Role Playing Games

MMORPG - Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games.

MMOP - Massively Multiplayer Online Persistent. This doesn’t necessarily differ from an RPG.

TBS -Turn-Based  Strategy is the same as TB but is a strategy game.

TB – Turn Based fighting; where you have time to figure out how you want to go about the fight.

The baddy/or baddies cannot hurt you until their turn.

RT – Real Time fighting is where, what you are fighting can attack you while you are lining up your attack.

FPS  - First-person shooter: Your screen is like your eyes; you see no figure just the gun. They are action games, example 007 games where you see the gun. The AI (artificial intelligence) should be smart as you maneuver around doing your mission.

TPS - Third-person shooter – Is farther away so you can see the whole body or team and you see them running up a hill, through a building ect. It is important to see the body when you are physically fighting something. Example: Freedom Fighters on the PS2; although it does have a over the shoulder shot.

RPG -  Final Fantasy IV on the GBAsp,  Mario and Luigi: Super Star Saga, Dragon Quest VIII, Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy X etc., Dark Cloud 2.  Must have a story line and a world to explore with fighting (for the most part) to level up; to get stronger and get better armor etc.

Adventure – Has you roaming all over seeking out what the storyline has to offer, fighting something is secondary in your thoughts. Escape from Monkey Island, Pac-Man 3 World, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Justice, Hotel Dusk Room215, Zack & Wicki Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure.

Fantasy Action Adventure – Fights flare up and you are roaming a world, hence the adventure part along with pretend creatures. Games I have under this is: Beyond Good and Evil, Most of Zelda, Kya Dark Lineage, Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, Shadow of the Colosus, Legend of Kay and Ico.

Platformers – There are 2D and 3D platformers where you are jumping and leaping trying to get through a level. Examples:  Heart of Darkness, Super Mario World 2D on the Snes, Ratchet and Clank,  Jak II,  Super Mario Sunshine, Castlevania, Kirby etc.

Action – Is where you are jumping and running, timing and quick reflexes. Games I have that are action are: Klonoa, Bomberman, Pac-Man, Frogger, and Kirby among others.

Action Adventure - You have a world to explore and a story to flesh out along as you jump, swim, fly to get to the ledge or land. The Legend of Zelda: the Minish Cap, Metroid Fusion, Metal Gear Solid 3: Substance, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, and Katamari Damacy.

Action RPG – Same as action but you add the role-playing aspect to it. You generally are scoping out a whole world with a story line and fighting the baddies. Games I have are: some Zelda, Illusion of Gaia, Legend of Mana, Alundra, Secret of Evermore, Star Ocean, and Crisis CoreFinal Fantasy VII.

Action Puzzle - Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure and Lemmings

Puzzle – Is just that and the games I have are: Pac-man, Boxxle, and Tetris, We Love Katamari, Wario Ware, Dr. Mario/Puzzle League, Ultimate Puzzle games on the GBAsp.

Survival Horror - Resident Evil 4 (An action adventure game). Just like it says, the game will be scary and you will be trying to live.

Zelda has been categorized as RPG, Action and Adventure.  Zelda I would say has puzzles with a strong story line so it would be a RPG/puzzle/action/adventure. Whereas Wind Waker is more adventure. Zelda always has puzzles to figure out regardless.

Purists are people that enjoy a remake of a game (on a current console) to be exactly like the original. I for one, enjoy better graphics, and if the game had hardly any saved areas, and now it has more I am all for that.

Completeist’s are people who want to complete every mini-game, find every coin or whatever there is to find. Have the best armor, or the best of what the game has to offer. I want to be the strongest I can be, and have the best armor and at least try to beat every mini-game. It does not bother me not to do the sport section of a game or fighting in some arena for the fun of it.

Example: Final Fantasy X-2 is rated Teen for suggested themes and violence. This game doesn’t show actual blood or fake blood.  Monster etc. just disappear, without seeing any slicing like in a mature rated game.
